We are pleased to invite you to the conference “Europe at War: Northern Europe’s Role in Transatlantic Security,” hosted by the Atlantic Council and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Stockholm. As Sweden and Finland join NATO, and as Ukraine’s counter offensive gains momentum, there is not only an opportunity but urgency that Germany engages in the Nordic-Baltic Sea region to ensure the region’s peace, security, and prosperity.
The half-day conference will feature two panels. The first panel, “A United Front”, will address the current state of Western support to Ukraine and longer-term strategies to ensure peace and security in Europe as well as achieve an acceptable peace in Ukraine. Germany’s response and future role in ensuring transatlantic unity will be central to the discussion.
The second panel, “A Double Zeitenwende,” will address how Germany and the Nordic duo, having undergone a near complete overhaul of their strategic thinking, should contribute to regional and transatlantic security. Not only are substantial defence investments being, but policy makers are rapidly reassessing their nation’s role in European and Transatlantic security. The panel will investigate the Nordic-Baltic region’s place in an era of great-power rivalry and major war on the European continent.
