This advocacy paper shares and supports thе position of the European Commission, also putting forward the argument that in this process, civil society organisations (CSOs) are natural partners to the Parliament, apart from the institutions of the system. Even more that both the Parliament and CSOs represent and safeguard the same interests - the interests of the citizens of North Macedonia.
Thereby, this paper focuses on the role of these two major players in the accession process of North Macedonia and advocates:
1) institutionalised involvement of CSOs in the accession negotiations through their participation in the work of Parliament in implementing its oversight function;
2) ensuring transparency by involving the public and timely provision of information to the public; and
3) expanding and orienting the assortment of financial assistance instruments for participation of CSOs in the accession negotiations by the European Union and the Government.
