Workshop
Details
Problem identification:
Providing accurate, prompt and exclusive information is a challenge for any journalist in Macedonia. In recent years a huge number of institutions have opened offices for public relations, created their own informative web pages, assigned contact persons in order to show their increased openness to public. But in reality sometimes it is nevertheless difficult for journalist to get proper information.
According to the practice of the journalists the Law on Free Access to Public Information is not fully functional. Journalists often wait long time for a response from the public institutions when submitting an appeal. This prevents or put obstacles to the work of investigative journalists. The problem is even bigger for journalists who create products for daily or weekly media without fully verified informa-tion. That is why journalists are often exposed to court sues of defamation and insult because the provided information are not always ensued by offi-cial government authority.
Aim of the workshop:
The workshop will educate and motivate a group of journalists and editors to conduct successful inves-tigative stories in the area of lustration. The new law on lustration is an issue that journalists have to deal with.
