Details
Among the participants was Hael Adel Al Fahoum, the new Palestinian General Delegate to Germany.
Thomas Birringer, Resident Representative of Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (KAF) and Knut Dethlefsen, Resident Representative of Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation (FEF), contributed to this event.
The participants showed much interest in the change of government: the hall in Al-Quattan-Foundation, where the event took place, was almost completely full. Alongside the members of the German-speaking Association, there were also people affiliated to Birzeit-University, members of non-governmental organizations and various other politically oriented institutions.
All the participants were interested in the discussion and asked numerous questions, especially regarding German foreign politics and the effective work of the Grand Coalition in a situation of reforms being necessary. The participants also asked about the details of the different positions of the two people’s parties and wanted to know in which areas differences regarding political issues are prevailing and where consensus is predominant. Questions were asked also regarding the current political constellation and the role and the composition of the future opposition side. “Where is the opposition now, given that the two big parties that have been fighting against each other in the election campaign are now ruling jointly?”, many were asking. Subject of the discussion was also the German election system of and the allocation of votes that lead to the situation of a Grand Coalition.
