70 Years of "Nakba"

Palestinian Perception of the Arab-Israeli War of 1948

Students from KAS Journalism Trainee Program in Germany visited the Palestinian Territories to learn about how the #Nakba (catastrophe) impacted the Palestinian identity. The group met with university professors, politicians and youth and discussed the effects of occupation in the West Bank.

During the visit to Ramallah, the young group of journalists had the opportunity to meet with different representatives of the Palestinian society, i.e. politicians, academics and representatives from church and civil society. At Birzeit University, they met author and lecturer Saad Nimr, who talked about how the #Nakba (catastrophe) impacted the Palestinian identity. Later, the delegation met Xavier Abu Eid, communications advisor at the PLO Negotiations Affairs Department, at the christian Palestinian village of Aboud. They witnessed the effects of occupation in the Westbank. Their visit was concluded by a discussion with a young Palestinian professional about the current legal situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and about discriminations Palestinians face in Israel.
