Members of women centers in Hebron, university students, as well as BYN members participated. Guest speakers were Khaled Osseili, governor of Hebron governorate, Dr. Sahar Qawasmeh, member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), and Dr. Fatima Ayaydeh, psychiatrist.
Dr. Qawasmeh spoke about the extent of female participation in society and the benefits if women are more active in politics and society. During the session, Dr. Ayaydeh stated that women are nowadays as qualified as men to chair high positions and participate in the decision making process. Through trust in the capabilities of women, it is possible to increase their engagement in society and to raise their self esteem.
Osseili gave examples of women who proved to be successful in various fields of work. All speakers agreed that women should not let go of their rights and that they should fight and persist in taking part in the development of the Palestinian Autonomous Territories.
The Baader Youth Network is a joint initiative of the International Peace and Cooperation center (IPCC) Jerusalem and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ramallah. The aim of the project is to strengthen the role of youth in Palestinian society and in the political arena, to support future leaders as well as to cut back gender barrier. In this way, KAS and its partner support the build-up of a pluralistic, democratic and viable civil society in the Palestinian Autonomous Territories. The project is funded by the German Foreign Office within the framework of the program “Empowering Democracy”.
