Despite being called the “pag-asa ng bayan” (hope of our nation), many young Filipinos still struggle to have a real voice in governance. While there have been more spaces for youth participation in recent years, they’re still not enough. On top of that, a lot of young people feel disillusioned with political engagement, believing that real change is next to impossible—not just through elections, but even in other forms of civic engagement and political participation.

Economic struggles make this even worse. The effects of the pandemic, rising prices, and long-standing economic issues have made life harder, widening inequality and making it feel like democracy doesn’t really offer solutions. When daily survival is already a challenge, getting involved in democracy and governance can seem out of reach.

Camp KASAPI is our response to these challenging times. It aims to empower young leaders by equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to actively participate in democratic processes. The program focuses on teaching participants how to build collective power to drive change within their communities by organizing for collective action, creating and claiming democratic spaces, and winning issue-based and democratic campaigns. Through interactive workshops on leadership, communication, and community engagement, participants will learn to articulate their concerns, mobilize community efforts, and influence decision-making in governance.
