Geopolitics in the MENA region – trends and priorities

While the EU is not visible as an influential actor in many areas of the region or does not seem to have a consistent foreign policy strategy, France and Germany as important European states play an important role in numerous countries in the MENA region. Then, what are Germany and France's foreign policy priorities in the region? What are the red lines in the two countries' MENA policy and where can we identify points of departure for deeper cooperation? What new alliances and dynamics can be identified in the context of increasing global system rivalry in the region, and how are Germany and France positioning themselves?
