The conventional wisdom on the future of oil and gas suggests that the majority of the future expected global growth is likely to come from the developing countries of Asia. However, such views underplay the potential for energy transitions in a world of growing uncertainty. This uncertainty arises because of the new Trumpian administration in the USA and its impact on an already destabilized Middle East; the prospects for oil and gas prices; and the implications of COP 21, the Paris Agreement and on the transition to a lower carbon economy.
In his keynote speech, Professor Paul Stevens, Distinguished Fellow, Energy, Environment and Resources, Chatham House, will consider the lessons from other energy transitions in terms of their drivers and their outcomes in the context of Asian energy consumers.
