A total of 97 digital projects were submitted in the three categories, distributed as follows: Citizens (24), Civil Society (49) and Private Sector (24). These projects come from 17 countries in the region, as follows: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The winners in each of the three categories were: "Redmocracia" from Colombia in the "Citizens" category, "Repositorio Algoritmos Públicos" from Chile in the "Civil Society" category, and "Visor Urbano" from Mexico in the "Private Sector" category.

The award-winning project "Redmocracia" by Felipe Andrés Álvarez Samacá contributes to the decision-making process of organizations by using blockchain technology, which makes it possible to manage proposals and votes in a transparent and secure way. This tool has already reached more than 60 thousand people and was awarded at the World Government Summit in Dubai. Here is the link to the project: https://www.redmocracia.org

On the other hand, the project "Repositorio Algoritmos Públicos" of the GobLab of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez is a digital platform that compiles and facilitates a total of 75 support systems for automated and semi-automated decision making with artificial intelligence used by public institutions. And the "Visor Urbano" project, carried out by the organization of the same name, was awarded for the implementation of a website that makes public information about land management, construction and business licenses transparent. This tool was awarded for reducing the number of bribery requests by 74% and the number of illegal mediation requests by 85%. Here is the link to the project: https://visorurbano.jalisco.gob.mx/

A total of 24 projects were recognized: three winners and 21 awards from 12 countries. The countries that received the most recognitions were: Argentina (5), Chile (5), Peru (4), Colombia (2) and Mexico (2). These numbers are proportional to the total number of projects per country that applied to the competition.

"This second edition of the Latin American Digital Democracy Prize has allowed us to reach almost all Hispanic countries in our region. This is a great success in just two years. And the topics addressed in the projects show the needs and priorities of the countries or subregions, for example in the areas of politics, citizenship, security or the environment. It's a great learning experience that shows how digital technologies permeate all these scenarios," said Elaine Ford, director of Digital Democracy.

On the other hand, it is worth noting that 54% of all the projects awarded with the prize were led by women. The most used tool for the development of projects continues to be the web platform (62%), either to create learning spaces, access information or promote actions. Regarding social networks, initiatives were registered on Facebook, Instagram, Spotify and YouTube, among others.

Likewise, among the projects, there are a large number that promote open data, accountability and transparency. The same is true for projects in the areas of civic participation, cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, online disinformation, education, equality and inclusion. All of these projects will soon be included in the Latin American Observatory for Digital Democracy: https://democraciadigital.lat/observatorio.

The award ceremony took place virtually through the Zoom platform and was streamed live from the institutional account on Facebook, which can be accessed at the following link: https://fb.watch/kc1_phCF-A/.
