Details

The ADELA Regional Program will hold the upcoming conference conference "Migration: From Security Challenges to Development Perspectives" from 15-18 February 2023 at the RIU Grand Plaza Hotel, Panama City. This is part of the SALMA Dialogue series of conferences, a project series of the ADELA Regional Programme, and falls within the framework of ADELA's security focus.

The approach to current migration issues tends to be restrictive. Despite the fact that migration is a transnational phenomenon, migration strategies are often unilateral. This prevents the creation of synergies, disperses efforts, and consequently limits the possibilities for real progress. For this reason, in the framework of Security, KAS ADELA and SALMA Dialogue have organized the conference which will address issues related to regional and multilateral dynamics in jointly addressing migration issues.

The specific objectives of the conference are:

  • To devise a roadmap to guide efforts
  • Identify priority axes of intervention
  • Design an overall strategy to create the expected synergies
  • Lead to the elaboration of an action plan to address areas for improvement.

The ADELA regional program and SALMA Dialogue invite you to participate in this enriching conference on our YouTube Channel where we will be doing a live stream of everything discussed at the event.

About the background of the SALMA project:

The regional program "Alliances for Democracy and Development with Latin America (ADELA)", based in Panama, deals with multilateral cooperation and aims to promote it among Latin American countries and other regions of the world. In this context, the RP ADELA founded the strategic South-South initiative SALMA Dialogue (Strategic Alliances: Latin America meets Africa) in 2019. The objective of this long-term project is to support partner countries in networking in selected thematic (security), political, and economic areas, promoting the exchange of experiences and good practices. Within the SALMA project line, FP ADELA also implements initiatives on security issues, as well as on the (broader) concept of security, which concerns both African and Latin American countries and thus pursues solutions to the common challenge of the partner countries.
