Artificial Intelligence and Law - an Exchange of Experiences

A two days’ workshop in cooperation with the General Secretary of the Government of Morocco.

On Thursday and Friday, the 13th and the 14th of February 2025, the Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in cooperation with the Secrétariat Générale du Gouvernement (SGG), Royaume du Maroc organized a two-day workshop entitled “Artificial Intelligence and Law - an exchange of experiences”. The workshop took place at Tour Hassan Palace Hotel in Rabat, Morocco, with participation of senior experts, doctors and professors from Morocco and Germany.

6th MENA ENVIRONMENTAL LAW AND POLICY SCHOLARS’ CONFERENCE

Water Security and Environmental Law in the Middle East and North African (MENA) Region

Leading international environmental law experts have emphasized the urgent need to prioritize environmental law education to advance water security and achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the MENA region. This call to action was a key focus of the 6th Environmental Law Conference of the Association of Environmental Law Lecturers in Middle East and North Africa Universities (ASSELLMU), which concluded on February 26 at the Faculty of Law, Arab East Colleges. Organized in partnership with the Rule of Law Programme MENA Region office of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), the three-day conference featured rigorous discussions, workshops, and keynote addresses, where experts explored the intersection of environmental law and water security across the MENA region, highlighting the critical role of legal frameworks in addressing these pressing challenges.

Breaking Chains: Strengthening Legal and Human Rights Strategies to Combat Human Trafficking in MENA

Together with the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences at Hassan I University in Settat, the Rule of Law Programme MENA Region office of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) organized the conference 'Breaking the Chains: Strengthening Legal and Human Rights Strategies to Combat Human Trafficking in the MENA Region' on February 11, 2025, in Settat, Morocco.

Rule of Law FORUM 2nd Edition

The second edition of the Rule of Law FORUM, the annual flagship event of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa.

On October 23-24, 2024, The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa, in partnership with the Youssef SADER Foundation for Legal Culture and the UNESCO Chair on Environmental Law and Sustainable Development at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) in Doha, Qatar, hosted the Second Edition of the annual Rule of Law FORUM in Doha, Qatar. Held at HBKU, this gathering brought together esteemed judges, academics, and legal experts to engage on critical issues of rule of law, sustainability, and innovation shaping the MENA region.

Leaders for Justice 2024 – Second Week

Targeting young jurists, “Leaders for Justice” is an annual project organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa.

The second edition of the “Leaders for Justice” program consists of two one-week workshops. The first week was held in Lebanon from the 4th till the 8th of June 2024. The Second week (subject of this report) was held in Germany from the 23rd till the 27th of September, 2024.

Female judges in the Arab Region and their impact on judicial practice

Do the patterns of women’s entry into the judiciary impact the outcomes of judicial practice in these countries, and if so, how?

The KAS Rule of Law Programme for the Middle East & North Africa hosted a closed workshop in Amman, Jordan, with female judges from the region that examined the questions: How do female judges access their professions in the Arab World; and do the patterns of women’s entry into the judiciary - organically, by quota or by appointment - impact the outcomes of judicial practice in these countries?

Exploring Environmental Legal Horizons: Highlights from the KAS-ASSELLMU Conference Embark on a journey of environmental legal exploration with the KAS-ASSELLMU conference. This two-day event, hosted at the College of Law, Sohar University in Oman, provided a platform for environmental educators, practitioners, and stakeholders to delve into the intricacies of environmental law and its intersection with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. From discussions on integrated approaches to biodiversity conservation to the role of international environmental rule of law in achieving the SDGs, this conference facilitated invaluable knowledge exchange, shaping the future of environmental law education and practice in the MENA region.

Good Governance in Political Parties, Current and Required Legislation

A workshop in collaboration with the Observatory of Public Service and Good Governance (OFP) at Saint Joseph University in Beirut (USJ)

On Tuesday, the 7th of November 2023, the Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in cooperation with the Observatory of Public Service and Good Governance (OFP) at Saint Joseph University organized a panel discussion on the Legal Framework of Political Parties. This event took place within USJ premises at Gulbenkian Auditorium, Social Sciences Campus, Huvelin Street - Achrafieh.
