In 2020, the impetus for an International Day of Women Judges (IDWJ) was given on the occasion of an event organised by UNODC's Global Judicial Integrity Network on 25th & 26th of February, 2020 in Doha, Qatar. In the summary report of the event, Hon. Dr. Almohanadi, Chief Justice of the State of Qatar and Hon. Vanessa Ruiz, President of the International Association of Women Judges, announced their intention to submit a joint proposal to the United Nations General Assembly recommending the establishment of an IDWJ. In April 2021, the UN GA adopted a corresponding resolution (A/RES/75/274) deciding to proclaim the 10th of March the IDWJ.
On the occasion of the second IDWJ, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Rule of Law Programme Middle East and North Africa, in cooperation with the International Center for Human Sciences of UNESCO (CISH), and with the College of Law at Qatar University, is organizing a regional conference on "Arab Women in the judiciary Achievements and Challenges". The conference will take place at the Qatar University campus on the 8th of March. This regional conference will host female judges from 5 different Arab countries, namely: Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Tunisia and Qatar.

The conference will start with an opening session, followed by three panel discussions on :
1)- The Role of Women in the judiciary: The Qatari experience.
2)- The Role of Women in the judiciary and promotion of integrity and justice in the Arab countries.
3)- Strategies for Improving Women's Participation in the judiciary.
