Welcome to the Konrad Adenauer Foundation!
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) has 18 offices in Germany and more than 110 offices in more than 80 countries. Through its work in Germany, the KAS wants to enable citizens to promote our free democracy and at the same time to take on an active role in politics and society. Basic political knowledge is therefore passed on, and our fodunation organizes more than 1,500 events with around 140,000 participants on numerous topics at over 300 locations every year - face-to-face and digitally.
The work of our more than 110 country offices is dedicated to the respective host country. In our case: Romania! To this end, we organize a variety of programs and projects together with our Romanian partner organizations. We thus guarantee a constant flow of political background information and trends from Romania to Germany, and thus create impulses for political discussion and decision-making processes in both countries.
KAS has been active in Romania since 1991, and our country office was opened in Bucharest in 1998. Since 2006, Bucharest has also been the head office of the Rule of Law Programme Southeast Europe of the KAS. For a long time, the country office in Bucharest was also responsible for the foundation's work in the Republic of Moldova.
The KAS country office in Romania works on the following main topics:
- Democracy needs participation (strengthening the democratic party system; getting young people interested in politics, promoting a culture of remembrance);
- Freedom needs security (promoting dialogue about the new security policy order in Europe; promoting European integration);
- Sustainability needs innovation (strengthen cooperation in the climate and energy sector, promote innovation bridges in research and digitization).
Freedom, justice and solidarity are the guiding principles of the work of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The KAS is a political foundation close to the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). As a co-founder of the CDU and the first German chancellor, Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967) combined Christian-social, conservative and liberal traditions. His name stands for the democratic reconstruction of Germany, the anchoring of foreign policy in a transatlantic community of values, the vision of European unification, and the orientation towards a social market economy. His spiritual legacy continues to be both a task and an obligation for us.
