Lecture
Details
2023 is unfortunately proving to be a year of major threats to European, international, and human security due to non-democratic regimes and war. We believe it is very important to develop this awareness in all layers of society. For this reason, we work closely with the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Bucharest together and try to raise students' awareness of this. A series of 12 lectures is organized and supported with the help of the KAS Romanian office. This way, we contribute to consolidating democracy and building a European identity in Romania´s higher education.
The next lecture to the students of the bachelor’s and master’s degree program will be held by our colleague Ferdinand Gehringer. He is a cybersecurity specialist and policy advisor in the Department of International Politics and Security at KAS Berlin and will lecture about the importance of submarine cables as critical infrastructure and a geopolitical instrument of power. He explains how major powers have recognized the geopolitical importance of submarine cables and how entire information flows can be influenced or even stopped. The EU, including Germany and Romania, must pay more attention to the protection of critical infrastructure. An analysis of this topic is available in English here.
