In Romania, too, pro-Russian disinformation and propaganda is spread mostly in the digital space by different actors with different motives. In order to sensitise the population to the fact that disinformation and propaganda in the digital space has very real and dramatic effects on the real lives of real people, KAS is bringing shocking images from Ukraine to the European Capital of Culture Timisoara/Temeswar with the Ukrainian "War up close" project and immersive 3D technology. The exhibition will then be on display for a month at the Comenduirea Garnizoanei House.
The "War up Close" project was initiated by experts from Discover.ua and FreegenGroup. Mykola Omelchenko, a photojournalist with years of experience and the first Google Trusted Photographer in Ukraine, has started taking photos for "War up Close". Using state-of-the-art technologies, the damage done by the Russian attackers will be captured and made available on Google Maps, social media pages and the project website. For a realistic experience, the images of the Russian crimes will be immersive with the help of VR glasses. The War up Close project team works closely with the State Emergency Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine. The panoramic images and drone footage also assist rescue workers in clearing debris and investigating the actual extent of the damage. Despite the dangers, the crimes against Ukraine and humanity are thus recorded for all future generations to preserve the memory of this tragedy.
The project's cooperation partners are the Museum of Collectivisation in Romania (MC), the House of the Memory of the Revolution in Timișoara/Temeshwar and the Direcția Județeană pentru Cultură Timiș.
