Workshop
Details
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation is supporting the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy organized by Europuls from 15 to 18 May in Bucharest. Expert and lecturer Daniela Popescu is hosting a workshop on "The Road to Democracy: Uncovering the Wounds of Communism". This workshop explores the lingering effects of Romania's communist past and highlights the complexity of the transition to democracy. Through an examination of political and social spheres, participants will delve deeper into the lingering mistrust and challenges facing Romanian society today. From its path to European integration to the nuances of everyday life, the audience will discover how Romania deals with the legacies of its history.
Dealing with communism is an important pillar of our foundation's work in Romania. An international forum for democracy in Romania is a very good opportunity to inform young people and experts from all over the world about the special features of democracy in the host country. The forum deals with topics such as civic participation, lack of trust in institutions, digitalization and the level of trust in democracy in general.
Our partner, the association "History from House to House", is organizing a series of workshops ("Democratic Dialogue") in Romanian schools on behalf of KAS to raise awareness about the consequences and still open wounds of communism. Read more about it here.
