Country reports
Through this unique mechanism the human rights situation in Tanzania was examined in detail on 9 May 2016. Reference point for the review was thereby the human rights report submitted by Tanzania on 10 February 2016 (http://www.ohchr.org/EN/HRBodies/UPR/Pages/TZSession25.aspx).
Since 2007, the General Periodic Review process has been utilized by the UN Human Rights Council as an instrument to periodically assess whether the human rights obligations of all Member States are met and adhered to. It has served ever since as a state-driven review system based on international cooperation and interactive dialogue.
While taking into consideration the presented human rights report, Member States give statements and comment on how the human rights situation in the state under review can be improved. At the time of writing the recommendation report for Tanzania is yet to be published.
