For decades Tanzania has been characterized by its remarkable stability and peace in the regional context. In the past months it has, however, seen an increase of tensions, conflicts and open eruptions of violence. The victims are not only members of religious minorities in Zanzibar, civil rights activists, journalists, members of the political opposition or social marginal groups. Also representatives of the national police and law enforcement organs have become casualties of violent attacks. The backgrounds are complex; whether intentions are politically, religiously or economically motivated becomes almost impossible to comprehend.
The main objective of the 11th Maendeleo-Dialogue is to help fathom the causes for these negative developments; possible solutions shall be discussed. Selected experts will discuss on the panel and meet the questions from the audience, which will be included intensively in the debate. Following an outline of the historical perspective of peace and stability in Tanzania, high ranking experts will provide analysis of the current human rights situation in the country respectively of the joint responsibility of citizens and law enforcers to maintain peace and stability. Afterwards the participants are invited to join the discussion in a round of questions and answers.
KAS Tanzania and its partner Tanzania Development Initiative Programme (TADIP) expect 200 participants representing the government, civil society, political parties, religious groups, foreign missions, academia, national and international experts, teachers, students, media and interested citizens. A stage shall be set for state and non-state actors to have an open, interactive and participative sharing of minds.
Kindly notice that attendance requires invitation and prior registration.
