Details
The organizers are expecting about 400 students from secondary schools, colleges and universities from all over Mtwara to attend the event titled “Your Voice, Your Choice! - Rights and Duties of Youths During the Upcoming Elections”. Throughout the whole day the young citizens, which are mostly first-time voters, shall comprehensively be prepared for the upcoming local government elections. Best possible informed voters are the base of any vibrant democracy.
Besides introductory speeches of CETA’s Secretary General Safari Minja and KAS Tanzanian’s Prgramme Coordinator Richard Shaba, representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the SAUT University Mtwara, the National Election Commission (NEC) will be holding presentations to inform the young voters. The Mtwara District Commissioner, Hon. Wilman Kapenjama is expected as guest of honour. In addition, there shall be plenty of room for an open discussion and a question & answer session.
Beginning of October a similar event in Dar es Salaam had atttracted more than 300 young people(click here for more: http://www.kas.de/tansania/en/publications/39389/). After this very successful pilot event, CETA and KAS in cooperation with PMO and NEC will continue their joint efforts to provide young people with information on voter registration and further voter education in other regions of Tanzania.
