Voices from Tanzania

Voices from Tanzania

This publication compiles all KAS research intern reports from 2021 to 2024, accompanied by a foreword from the KAS representative.

We are proud to present "Voices from Tanzania," a collection of research reports exploring various socio-political and economic aspects of Tanzania. This compilation highlights the work of KAS’s German student researchers, who conducted their independent research during a three-month posting to our Tanzania office from 2021 to 2024. Supported by KAS partners and networks, these reports examine key topics such as the philosophy of Ujamaa, the Standard Gauge Railway’s geopolitical significance, the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and innovative approaches like using sports for peace and social cohesion. While the research offers a German perspective, it serves as an invitation to engage in deeper dialogue about Tanzania's development and its global interactions. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the contributors and partners who made this publication possible, especially the German students: Meike Krieger, Jan-Ole Voss, Daniel Fabian, Sabrina Carl, Emily Samira Axmann, Hannah Bösl, Alexis Gregoire, Ronja Koch, and Tarun Ruschmeier. We hope this compilation sparks further research and engagement with Tanzania’s rich narratives. Happy reading!
