A two-day workshop and study trip in Songkla co-organised with Office of the Constitutional Court of Thailand and Sawasdee Thai Foundation, during the official visiting programme to Thailand of Mr Manfred Grund, Member of German Parliament (CDU/CSU) from 8 – 9 February 2007.
The workshop and study trip have main objectives to gain insight into the conflict in the restive Southern provinces of Thailand (Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and four districts of Songkla) and to discuss and exchange opinions with Thai government officials and local leaders from the three Southern provinces regarding possible solutions to the Southern problems.
The programme includes discussions with the Director of Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC), Mr Pranai Suwannarat; Governor of Songkla Province; Former Judge of the Constitutional Court of Thailand, Mr Parn Jantaraparn; academics from Prince Songkla-Nakarin University and leaders of local governments and representatives of Tambon Administrative Organisations (TAOs) from the three Southern provinces (Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat).
