Details

„Remembrance is a therapeutic process. It is the only way to learn.” Along these lines of Joachim Gauck, the first Federal Commissioner for the Stasi Archives, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Ukraine and Institute of Political Education have been educating young Ukrainian historians, political scientists, journalists and civil society representatives how to remember in order not to forget. In numerous seminars throughout the country, controversial perspectives on the Ukrainian history have been presented and historical documents have been discussed. International speakers have provided an insight into the perception of history in their countries and their methods of coming to terms with the past. Politics of history and politics of remembrance today and their possible configuration in future have been the major point for discussion between the participants.

The international conference “Remembering the Past – Building a Future” is meant to outline the key questions of the previous seminar discussion and to offer a broader view on them. It brings together prominent Ukrainian and international historians, political scientists, journalists and civil society representatives to talk with their next generation representatives.
