In modern society, the middle class (including businessmen, intellectuals, managers...) have an important role in promoting economic development, enhancing nation’s potential, addressing effectively the highly growing demand for jobs and contributing to social stability and equilibrium. The middle class also have a significant voice in national policy making process. In Vietnam, the middle class is growing fast. According to market research company Neilson, Vietnamese middle class population will reach 44 million in 2020 and 95 million in 2030. However, there are few researches focusing on the role of the emerging middle class and their effect on the modernization process in Vietnam, both in theory and practice. Therefore, KAS in cooperation with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organizes the international conference entitled: “The role of middle class in the process of modernization of Vietnam: from theory to practice”.
