Results of the statement: "I make sure to behave in an environmentally and climate-friendly way in everyday life." 4,247 respondents, 27.10.2022 to 16.01.2023, survey by Infratest dimap on behalf of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

At first glance, the results on environmentally and climate-friendly behaviour are counterintuitive: Older generations say they pay more attention to behaving in an environmentally and climate-friendly way in everyday life than younger generations. For example, an above-average 62 percent of those over 75 fully agree. Among 16 to 25-year-olds, approval in this category is almost three times lower (22 percent). With increasing age, approval grows.

Socialization in the post-war period (over 75 years) or the environmental movement of the 1970s (over 65 years) could play a role. At the same time, younger age groups are being shaped by increasing awareness of the effects of consumption. It cannot therefore be ruled out that different age groups apply different high standards for their own climate-friendly behaviour. The core result of the entire study is that the topic of climate is of great importance to people in Germany in all age groups. A sometimes proclaimed generational conflict between old and young is not evident in representative surveys.

Further information and results can be found in the study "Doing without for the climate?".
