From October 13-18, 2024, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s Regional Program Energy Security and Climate Change Middle East and North Africa (KAS-REMENA), in collaboration with the KAS Domestic Program and the KAS Multinational Development Policy Dialogue Brussels, organized a series of high-level meetings under the theme "Reshaping Mediterranean Energy Cooperation." These meetings, held in Berlin and Brussels, brought together a delegation of energy experts from Mediterranean countries to share pre-developed recommendations with key stakeholders from German ministries, members of the Bundestag, EU institutions, NATO, and think tanks.
The Mediterranean region is of strategic importance for global energy security, offering vast potential for renewable energy and energy transition projects. However, geopolitical and structural challenges have often hindered the realization of this potential. In light of current geopolitical shifts and energy challenges, this program aimed to foster dialogue on reshaping energy cooperation frameworks in the Mediterranean. The delegation’s recommendations sought to address these challenges, promote stronger partnerships, and advance both energy security and the green energy transition in the region.
The "Reshaping Mediterranean Energy Cooperation" dialogue program provided a platform for key discussions on the future of energy cooperation in the Mediterranean. The delegation presented their recommendations on energy security, renewable energy integration, and regional cooperation to German and European stakeholders. These meetings reinforced the importance of the Mediterranean as a key player in the global energy landscape and set the stage for future collaboration to address the region’s energy challenges and opportunities.
