Europe has high hopes for the new U.S. administration, especially on its attitude towards multilateral cooperation and trade. What can Europeans realistically expect from the Biden administration? At a minimum, there will be a change in tone, greater civility, and predictability. Most importantly, will there be substantial changes on punitive tariff policies, further usage of unilateral sanctions or will there be support for WTO reforms? In light of Biden’s recent Executive Order to strenthen the "Buy American" provisions, one has to ask what chance is there for a restart of the stalled Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP)? In the coming months which trade priorities will the Biden administration pursue and who will be the key persons to watch? What position will Europe take and what will Europe offer in exchange for better trade relations with the U.S.?

Please join the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for a virtual discussion about the Biden administration’s agenda on multilateral cooperation and trade. After welcoming remarks from Paul Linnarz, Director of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s U.S. office, Peter Rashish, Senior Fellow and Director of the Geoeconomics Program, American Institute for Contemporary German Studies, will present key findings of his paper, The Trade Agenda for the 46th U.S. President: Advancing Global Economic Order? (link to paper here).

Following Peter Rashish’s presentation will be a discussion with:

Stefan Rouenhoff, Member of German Bundestag (tbc)
Prof. Simon Evenett, University of St. Gallen
Moderator Dr. Jan Cernicky, responsible for International Trade and Economy at Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Berlin
