In the Shadow of the War in Gaza, the Hashemite Kingdom Elects a New Parliament

Jordan is trying hard, more than ever since the last reform efforts in the wake of the “Arab Spring”, to engage its citizens into political participation – though all that remains carefully crafted and under strict state supervision. The upcoming parliamentary elections on September 10 are a milestone in the Kingdom’s “Political Modernization” initiative that King Abdullah has launched three years ago – and a glimmer of hope for democracy.
