Germany is an important partner in Japan’s foreign, economic, and security policy. Consequently, the German federal elections attracted significant interest from Japanese media, parliamentarians, business leaders, academics, and think tank representatives.
To analyze and provide an initial assessment of the election results, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation's Japan office, in collaboration with the German Embassy, invited one of Germany’s most esteemed political scientists, Prof. Dr. Karl-Rudolf Korte from the University of Duisburg-Essen, to Tokyo.
As part of his three-day visit, Prof. Korte participated in a high-level event and panel discussion, hosted by Ambassador Petra Sigmund. In parliament, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation facilitated a discussion with representatives from multiple parties and senior staff of the House of Representatives.
During his visit, Prof. Korte also met with Isao Kano, President and CEO of the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE); Prof. Kyoji Fukao, Chairman of the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI); senior officials from the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI); as well as representatives from German and Japanese businesses and universities.
His visit provided valuable insights into Germany’s political dynamics and contributed to strengthening the ongoing dialogue between Japan and Germany on political and economic affairs.
