The event in the EU Parliament was enriched by speeches of Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, as well as MEP Daniel Caspary, President of the CDU/CSU Group in the European Parliament, MEP Prof. Dr. Angelika Niebler, Co-Chair of the CDU/CSU Group in the European Parliament, and MEP François-Xavier Bellamy, Head of the French Les Républicains delegation. The speakers shared their assessments and perspectives on the future of the Franco-German friendship. The event was attended by about 100 members of parliament, parliamentary staff and partners of the Foundation. The contributions from German, French and European perspectives were accompanied by music, followed by an evening reception. In this context, the participants appreciated what had been achieved, but also agreed that the Franco-German relationship, as the engine of European integration, must develop new dynamics. One should not limit oneself to sticking to the status quo, but revive European ambitions and visions, they said.
As part of a political dialogue program in Brussels, Prof. Dr. Lammert met, among others, Mikolas Dzurinda, former Prime Minister of Slovakia and President of the Martens Centre, Manfred Weber, President of the EPP and Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, and Michael Clauß, Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the EU, for talks.
