What makes our student scholarship program special?
Studying is about more than lectures, exams, and credit points. Your perspective shouldn’t stop at your course syllabus. Whether in your shared kitchen or in a seminar room – conversations about society, politics, and your own values are what shape your student years. Asking yourself: Where am I headed, and how can I find my place in society? That’s part of the journey. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s student scholarship program gives you the freedom and support to find your way – and a community to grow with.
Our advisors offer you individual support throughout your studies. They help you define your goals and make the most of the opportunities along the way. In our interdisciplinary seminars, you’ll discuss social developments and current challenges. At your university, you’ll be part of a local student group – where you can visit exhibitions, take part in parliamentary tours, and build lasting friendships. As a Konrad Adenauer Foundation scholar, you become part of a community from day one – a network of people who learn from one another and support each other’s growth.
3Q
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for young people who are passionate about their field of study and eager to make a difference in society and politics. We are looking for individuals who are regularly involved in volunteer work and who use their talents to contribute to the common good. We are looking for people who identify with Christian democratic values and treat others with respect—regardless of gender, background, or religion. We pay particular attention to the following criteria:
- Intellectual ability: Your academic performance in school and university is good to excellent. You are curious, ask questions, and are open to topics beyond your studies.
- Values: You identify with the values represented by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and are interested in political issues and topics. You are able to develop your own well-considered opinions on societal and political matters while remaining tolerant and respectful toward people with different views.
- Social and political engagement: You regularly commit to volunteer work—whether in political, social, religious, or cultural contexts.
- Personality: You are motivated, communicative, and show strong potential to achieve the goals you set for yourself in your studies and in life.
You’ll find all further details about the application process in the final dropdown section titled “Apply now.”
What are the benefits of the student scholarship program?
Non-Material Support
The non-material support provided by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation combines a diverse seminar program with individual guidance and an active student group life at universities.
Interdisciplinary Seminars
A mathematician debates the implications of using artificial intelligence in courtrooms with a law student; a theologian probes the ethical challenges of assisted dying alongside a future doctor; a biologist investigates biotech breakthroughs with a computer scientist—this interdisciplinary exchange defines our seminars. These dialogues are ignited by expert talks spanning science, politics, business, media, the arts, and culture.
Individual Support
We support your academic and personal development. Our advisors talk with you about your goals and provide guidance throughout your studies. We take your individual life circumstances into account and encourage you to step outside your comfort zone. We value a diverse community where students engage in dialogue – regardless of their background or whether they are the first in their family to attend university.
Student Group Life
Attend the theater together, discuss social change, and make new friends along the way – all this happens in our university student groups. Each group is supported by a trusted faculty advisor who provides academic and personal guidance. This sense of community continues after your scholarship ends through our alumni network, the Association of Former Scholarship Holders (ASeV).
Financial Support
The scholarship is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The basic scholarship currently amounts to up to €812 per month, depending on your own financial situation or that of your parents. Regardless of parental income, all scholarship holders receive a monthly study allowance of €300.
Study stays abroad can be funded for up to two semesters. The scholarship does not need to be repaid.
For scholarship holders receiving the basic scholarship, a monthly allowance of up to €122 may be granted to cover health and nursing insurance. In addition, those with at least one child under the age of 14 may receive a childcare allowance of €160 per child per month.
Simultaneous funding from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and under the German Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG), or from other public sources, is not permitted. Further details can be found in our funding guidelines.
