Specialist conference
Details
Due to foreign exchange control, foreign investments in China used to be restricted. As a result of the ongoing development of the Chinese capital market however, foreign institutional investors have increased their demands on direct entry in the capital market in China. In the year 2002, the Qualified Foreign Institutional Investors Scheme (QFII) was introduced, which allows global institutional investors, on a selective basis, to invest in the Renminbi-denominated capital market. In the following years, the total QFII quota increased from 4 billion USD to 270 billion USD, qualification requirements had been lowered substantially and investment options had been increased, showing the significance of foreign investment in Chinese capital markets.
In cooperation with the Law School Institute of Tongji University and Bucerius Law School, KAS Shanghai hosts an international conference on the developments of Chinese capital markets and the relevance of foreign investments in the Chinese capital markets. It is the aim of the conference to introduce developments and solutions from a Chinese and German comparative perspective.
