Decisions on energy policy initiated a global transformation process in Germany, reaching broad sections of society. For Chile, it is important the dialogue and mutual exchange of experience in order to achieve their goals in the sector. Against this background, the forum was "Perspectives of Non-Conventional Renewable Energy: What can we learn from Germany?", jointly organized by Espacio Público and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) -Chile.
Christian Hübner reported about the objectives of the energy transition and the planned phasing out of nuclear power in Germany in 2022. Also, he explained the expansion of renewable energies in the electricity sector up to 80 percent by 2050.
Although Christian Hübner pointed out that the German energy transition experience cannot be easily transferred to other countries, Mr. Carlos Silva, a researcher at the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences of the UAI, assured: "We must learn from the ability to make such important decisions, such as for example, in the case of the energy transition ". He added: "It would be ideal to be able to make such a move with the support of the population".
Ms. Jimena Jara, Secretary of Energy, took the opportunity and thanked for Germany's support in this area: "Much of what we have in Chile in non-conventional renewable energies, we owe it because of a strategic alliance with Germany, this country is a great role model and it is important to adapt the developed solutions to our reality."
Guillermo González, Director of Espacio Público, pointed out that the energy issue is of great importance for the study center, and announced that it would soon publish proposals for land use and citizens' participation in investment projects, which involve the energy sector. González stated: "In this context, we think that it was important to organize a discussion group on conventional renewable energies. In this topic, Germany is the world leader and therefore we can all learn from it".
