Event reports
This symposium was held during the COP20 (Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change - UNFCCC) as part of commitments under the United Nations Convention on the management of climate change as well as frameworks that encourage subscription to cooperation agreements of the Pacific Alliance. This meeting represented the first effort to create a mechanism between local actors of the region for the exchange of best practices to manage climate change.
The symposium brought together representatives of local governments of Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru to share their experiences in managing climate change.
Representatives of the Brazilian platform CB27 shared their experience in Brazil with the members of the Pacific Alliance. The CB27 platform brings together environmental secretaries of the 27 Brazilian state capitals to exchange experiences, not only about the challenges of environmental policy but also on good practices and measures that have already been implemented successfully.
After the talks, the groups worked on specific topics and prepared a final statement, which was signed by everyone as part of its commitment to local environmental management.
ICLEI and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation presented the publication "Urban Sustainability: Experiences in Latin America" on specific cases of urban sustainability in different topics. The objective of this study is to inspire cities in the region and the world to rethink their approaches to development.
The next day, the conclusions of the symposium were presented at the Climate Fair "Voices for Climate", a space for civil society activities, organised during COP 20.
We thankTeresa Belkow, Coordinator of the symposium.
