Workshop
Details
Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and the Center for the Study of Religion and Culture (CSRC) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta have developed the “Countering Extremist Narratives” program since July 2017. In 2018 the program was then packaged under the theme Voicing Peace and Harmony: Enhancing the Role of Pesantren in Countering Extremist Narratives by involving pesantren (Islamic boarding school) in particular as the main partner in the implementation of the program. This program aims to increase the capacity of pesantren in promoting peace, harmony, and tolerance through countering extremist narratives (KNE). Pesantren as the oldest educational institution in Indonesia have strong social capital in peacebuilding and efforts to prevent radicalism and violent extremism.
In its journey, KNE was developed more intensely and in-depth in the form of training to equip pesantren communities in identifying extremist narratives and how to counter these narratives, so a Training of Trainer (ToT) was made to train participants of workshop options to become KNE trainers.
The Training of Trainer (ToT) aims to improve the skills and insights of ustadz/ustadzah in pesantren on extremist narratives and how to counter-narrate them. This activity has resulted in several recommendations that can be summarized, including improving coordination and communication between KNE Workshop alumni who are currently incorporated in alliances in each region, increasing literacy and KNE narratives in their respective pesantren, integrating KNE material in teaching materials, campaigning for KNE both in lectures and sermons, coordination between trainers to finalize the material and finalize the methods to be used, both online and offline, and the need for micro training (micro teaching) for prospective trainers in their respective regions as a vehicle for training and practicing KNE training which will be held in one of the trainers' pesantren with participants from senior santri and ustadz/ustadzah.
This Micro Teaching program aims to (1) Coordinate the trainer team members in finalizing and harmonizing the materials and methods to be used in the training; (2) Practice the delivery of KNE module materials as a facilitation exercise process within the framework of participatory training; (3) Produce competent, qualified, and skilled KNE trainers through a participatory approach for future trainings.
