Workshop
Details
According to the World Bank, 74.89% of Cambodia's 17 million citizens live in rural areas, making up the majority of the country. There is a significant disparity between the infrastructures and development phases of the major capital and the rural area. Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, is paying more attention to waste management. However, in most of the cities which influence those rural communities, there is a high demand for knowledge of waste management among key stakeholders, especially the community's management role, the governmental officials, community leaders, heads of schools, and teachers.
That is why we introduce an annual project called “Local Waste Ambassador”. This program aims to strengthen the leadership skills and solid waste management expertise of the local stakeholders in order to help them serve as role models for their community. Youth participation is also a core of implementation of this project. Young people who are eager to participate in this local waste development project will be equipped with skills and knowledge with our preparatory workshop. After that, together with our partner COMPOSTED and the selected youth, we will provide a waste education (Wasted-Ed) workshop to the local stakeholder such as government officials and the head of local school in Kampong Thom to raise awareness about waste and climate related issues. Participants would aid knowledge of basic understanding about waste, getting to know inspiration ideas and initiatives from diverse experts from different institutions including non-profit organizations, private sector who actively engage with the topic.
In collaboration with the COMPOSTED organization, KAS will be organizing Local Waste Ambassador 2023 with the thematic focus: “Enhancing waste education and management in the local community”. Applications are now open for all eligible youths in Cambodia until August 24th, 2023.
