Event reports
During the meeting, the results of the third report were presented and discussed controversially, as the student’s increased ability to read between the lines became obvious. Already in mid-January 2010, MIFTAH, the Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy, started to monitor three daily Palestinian newspapers. The third monitoring report primarily analysed two major issues: The calls for solidarity with Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike and the death penalty, carried out by the Ministry of Interior of the dismissed Palestinian government in the Gaza Strip for two persons convicted by the supreme Military Court in Gaza of collaborating and cooperating with Israel. The result of the report mainly emphasized that Palestinian divisions still affect the Palestinian media.
The entire project, which is a cooperation between the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Ramallah and MIFTAH focuses on the effect of media on shaping perceptions of emergent issues, the education of Palestinian media students, the support of professional camaraderie and common goals among Palestinian journalists, media analysts and media departments at Palestinian universities and to forge partnerships between NGOs and educational institutions.
