Legal Encounter - "The Need of the Palestinian Society for a Constitution"

On December 15th, 2010, Mr. Fatih Al-Wehaidi, Director of the Public Law Department at Al-Azhar University Gaza, gave a lecture on the need of the Palestinian society for a constitution. The lecture took place in the context of the “Legal Encounter” series of lectures, based on a co-operation between the Institute of Law (IoL) of Birzeit University and the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (KAS) Ramallah

After he explained the reasons for the need of a democratic constitution and the latest developments within the Palestinian National Authority in this connection, Mr. Al-Wehaidi eventually reported about the influence of a constitution on the single citizen. He came to the conclusion that this influence should be regarded as very important, as the constitution organizes the lives of the citizens, sets up general principles for the society, and defines rights, duties and freedoms.

The lecture, which took place in the IoL building in Gaza, was attended by 61 students of law.
