In 2015, the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which is embodied in an action plan for people, planet and prosperity. The 196 countries that signed the resolution recognized that the main challenge facing humanity is the eradication of poverty in all its forms as the only way to achieve sustainable development.
The challenges posed by the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) require the mobilization of efforts and resources by society as a whole in order to be achieved. In this same sense, the contribution of the state through legislative management is of great importance for the establishment of laws and regulations that contemplate the aspects referred to in the 2030 Agenda.
Strengthening knowledge in this area among members of the National Assembly of Panama aims to align state policies with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the attainment of the sustainable development goals to which the country has committed.
In this sense, Sumarse has comitted itself to sensitize public actors, with the purpose of installing knowledge to be put into practice at the time of formulating laws, seeking as a result, to have public policies aligned to the fulfillment of each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set forth by the United Nations, even under the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
