Environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues are currently high on the agenda for all types of companies especially listed firms. They serve as an important indication of value assessment and sustainable investment. The ESG development is constantly shaped by evolving stakeholders’ expectations and regulations around the globe. New business opportunities and regulatory risks thus emerge in response to the fast-changing ESG requirements.
Climate change and sustainability dominate the ESG agenda, as different jurisdictions pursue carbon neutrality targets and ambitious decarbonisation goals. Legal, compliance and risk management is playing a key role in contributing to successful achievement of overall ESG objectives. How does the legal field play a role in shaping the ESG agenda? What are the current obstacles for legal professionals to address ESG issues?
