Details

Basra has the second highest population in Iraq, it is in possession of the country’s most important harbor and located amongst the region’s richest oil fields. However, the region is still suffering from low economic growth rates and widespread poverty.

In six distinct panels, this conference aims to assess Basra’s economic potential with a focus on the regions geography and its natural resources. The predominantly Iraqi experts will discuss how to best manage and reinvest the profits of energy trade and how to overcome the city’s oil dependency. Moreover, the conference will give an outlook on future challenges, such as environmental pollution, and prospects of investment in the region.
