Details

The primary aim of the workshop was to bring together leading experts on transboundary water politics and geopolitics in the Middle East to discuss and develop forward-looking scenarios and policy options for the Euphrates-Tigris Basin. The focus was on fostering regional cooperation and addressing the critical challenges faced by riparian states in managing shared water resources.

The workshop convened 20 distinguished experts from various regional and international organizations. These participants brought a wealth of knowledge and experience in the fields of transboundary water management, geopolitics, and regional cooperation.

Participants engaged in intensive scenario planning sessions to explore potential futures for the Euphrates-Tigris Basin. These sessions facilitated collaborative discussions on the current water situation, regional relations, and negotiation strategies among riparian states. Through these discussions, the experts worked together to develop innovative policy options aimed at promoting sustainable water management and enhancing regional cooperation.

The workshop resulted in the development of scenarios and associated policy options for the Euphrates-Tigris Basin up to 2035. Keep an eye on our website for the publication of the workshop findings, which will be available in the coming weeks. This report will provide detailed scenarios and policy recommendations aimed at fostering cooperation and sustainable water management in the Euphrates-Tigris Basin.
