Together for Safe and Democratic Elections: Dialogue for Security Ahead of Elections

A Project for Stability and Democracy in Côte d'Ivoire

In West Africa, electoral processes are crucial for democracy and political stability, yet they are often marked by sociopolitical tensions and risks of violence. Despite significant progress, Côte d'Ivoire continues to face challenges regarding electoral transparency and public trust in state institutions. The northern and western regions, in particular, are more vulnerable to societal tensions due to economic, social, and historical factors.

Against this backdrop, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation is launching the project "Together for Safe and Democratic Elections: Dialogue for Security Ahead of Elections", an initiative aimed at preventing electoral conflicts by promoting social cohesion and participatory dialogue.

Commitment to Peaceful Elections

This project employs an inclusive and proactive approach, involving security and defense forces, local authorities, civil-military committees, community leaders, youth, women, and civil society organizations. The goal is to create spaces for consultation and collaboration to ensure peaceful, transparent, and inclusive elections.

Targeted Activities in Key Regions

Project activities will take place in four strategic cities:

  • Kong
  • Katiola
  • Gagnoa
  • San Pedro

These locations were selected for their significance in the national electoral landscape and their susceptibility to pre-election tensions. The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of local actors, promote constructive dialogue, and lay the foundation for a stable and inclusive electoral process.

Project Objectives

  • Strengthening social cohesion among local communities.
  • Training and raising awareness among local actors on best electoral practices.
  • Encouraging inclusive dialogue between security forces, authorities, and civil society.
  • Developing strategies for preventing electoral conflicts.

Through this initiative, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation is committed to ensuring safe, inclusive, and sustainable elections in Côte d'Ivoire. Join us in fostering a stronger democracy and a peaceful electoral environment!
