The forty-year conflict in Afghanistan, the continuing violence and economic and political instability has for decades led to extensive migratory movements from Afghanistan. This has resulted in criminal and economic structures of forced human trafficking as well as voluntary human smuggling.
Danish Karokhel, editor-in-chief of the Afghan news agency Pajhwok, has compiled in his work his many years of experience as an investigative journalist on the subject of human trafficking. He distinguishes between 35 types of human trafficking and smuggling, looks at the legal aspects of the Afghan criminal law and Constitution, and discusses challenges and methods for investigative journalists and reporters reporting on this issue.
