On 04 May, the KAS Office Afghanistan organised in cooperation with the Institute of Diplomacy in the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs a seminar on "Transnational Jihadism and Regional Security".

Details

The seminar was featured by two international key note speakers. Dr. Hans-Jakob Schinder, Senior Director of the CounterExtremism Project (CEP), New York, and a former UNSC diplomat, spoke on the global networks of transnational Jihadist groups (al-Qaeda and ISIS).

Nils Wörmer, Head of KAS Department for Foreign & Security Affairs, spoke on the recent developments of Al-Qaeda and ISIS networks in Syria and Iraq.

The seminar was moderated by Dr. Moheb Spinghar, Director of the Institute of Diplomacy, and Dr. Ellinor Zeino, KAS  Country Director.

The seminar participants were Afghan junior diplomats and employees from the Afghan ministry bureaucracy who complete an in-service study of international relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit of the two international guests was accompanied by an extensive discussion programme with government officials, foreign and security policy decision-makers, diplomats and representatives of local think tanks.
