Specialist conference
Details
The constitutional reform processes within the member states of the East African Community (EAC), poses severe challenges to the respective political stakeholders. Nevertheless, they also offer new chances to strengthen democracy and the Rule of Law in East Africa, as well as to enforce the regional process of integration within the EAC framework.
The conference will mainly deal with the question of how the current – or already finalized – constitutional reform processes in the member states of the EAC (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi), can aid the regional integration process, and which contradictions between national constitutional law and community law still have to be resolved. High-ranking experts from the different EAC member states therefore will analyze the national constitutional reform processes and bring them into the supranational context of the EAC-Treaty. The analysis and recommendations of the conferences participants will finally be summarized in a publication, which is supposed to serve the political decision makers as a scientific basis for their work within this field.
The conference first and foremost addresses political stakeholders, jurists, academic professionals, students of Dar es Salaam University, and representatives of civil society. Participation is only possible with a previous registration at
