The dialogue between the religions becomes more and more important in the light of the many conflicts and tensions with - presumably or real - religious background. Christians and Muslims all over the world want to vehemently renounce radical trends and interpretations of their faiths, so as to not jeopardize the peaceful coexistence and cooperation of people with different believes. Consequently, the efforts to conduct more interreligious dialogues have been intensified in recent years in many countries and many interfaith organizations have stepped up their work. As one result, numerous forums have successfully adopted and published joint statements and declarations -in East Africa recently at the level of the East African Community.
In Tanzania there are also various initiatives that bring together representatives of the religious communities. To support the interreligious exchange and foster the cooperation between religions successfully and efficiently, it would be appropriate to concentrate these initiatives and form one single forum that can also be an important partner and adviser to the Tanzanian government with regard to religious and interreligious questions.
Since many years, the Interreligious Council for Peace Tanzania (IRCPT) plays an important role in the interreligious dialogue as well as in the prevention and mediation of conflicts. Against this backdrop, top leaders of Tanzania's religious communities will debate on how the role of the IRCPT can be further strengthened; ways shall be identified on how the IRCPT can be establish to act as an official adviser and partner to the Tanzanian government as an officially recognized inter-religious umbrella organization.
