Leaders of the various faith-based organizations attended the meeting, including Baraza Kuu la Waislamu Tanzania (BAKWATA), Baraza la Makanisa ya Kipentekosti Tanzania (BMKT), Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT), Hindu Council of Tanzania, Tanzania Asian Development Association (TADA), Tanzania Muslims Professional Association (TAMPRO), Tanzania Episcopal Council (TEC), Umoja wa Wanawake wa Makanisa Dar es Salaam and Shia Ithaasheri Community.
The conference was opened by Hon. Stephen Wasira, Minister of State (Social Relations and Coordination); followed by brief presentations by leaders of Muslims (Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar), Christians and the Hindu Council of Tanzania on “The position of religions in relation to interfaith cooperation and peace building”.
During the meeting it was resolved to establish a task force to go through the resolutions of the last three meetings which took place in Kigali/Rwanda, the White Sands Hotel and the New Africa Hotel in Dar es Salaam and prepare a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Towards the end of January 2015 another meeting shall be convened in Zanzibar for the purposes of signing the MOU.
Furthermore, all participating interfaith organizations agreed to take over the ownership of IRCPT. The conference was closed by IRCPT Board Chairman, Justice (Rtd.) Raymond Mwaikasu who expressed his satisfaction with the collective decision to own the IRCPT. He said it was important for the IRCPT to be placed under the leadership of various religious faith-based organizations and stressed the importance of publishing IRCPT activities in a variety of media.
