The official opening by Hon. Angellah Jasmine Kairuki (MP), Deputy Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs of the United Republic of Tanzania, was also attended by Filiberto Sebregondi, Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Tanzania, John Reyels, Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Tanzania, Ms. Stefanie Kirschweng, ZIF, Mr. Charles Briefel, CLJAS, Mr. James Mwamu, President of the East African Law Society (EFSA) and other representatives of the diplomatic corps. KAS was represented by the resident representative for Tanzania, Stefan Reith.
The aim of the workshop was to facilitate an intensive dialogue and training between and for international peacekeeping experts. Discussed were topics such as the development of the national judicial policy, meaning of constitutional reforms, capacity building in the field of legal education and gender equality. The KAS country office in Tanzania supported the organizers during the preparations and was invited to participate in the program and the discussions. KAS, via its regional rule of law programs and country projects, supports and promotes democracy and rule of law as the basis for a peaceful and sustainable development. The joint training program of ZIF, UN and EFSA offered a good opportunity to strengthen networks with international partners and to discuss current developments with regard to the rule of law in Tanzania and beyond.
