17th Ecumenical Social Week

Every autumn we meet in Lviv at the Ecumenical Social Week International Forum, which will be held on October 7-10, 2024. The theme of the 17th ESW is: “Community Resilience: A Path to Healing and Restoring the Country”. The forum is organized by the Institute of Ecumenical Studies of the Ukrainian Catholic University with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Ukraine and the Evangelical Church in Germany.

The program of the forum will include an international opening panel, seminars, workshops, an exhibition of ancient Ukrainian towels, visits to social communities, workshops, discussions, and presentations.
We organize some events in cooperation with the following partners:
UCU School of Journalism and Communications, UCU EPE Program, the International Institute for Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations (MIOK) of the Lviv Polytechnic National University, RISU, Ukrainian Christian Academic Society, Renovabis, CNEWA, Louvre D'Orient, and others.

The list of the speakers include: Yevhen Hlibovytskyi, Director of the Frontier Institute, expert in long-term strategies, Fr. Andrii Zelinskyi, military chaplain, Deputy Head of the Military Chaplaincy Department of the UGCC Patriachal Curie, Josef Zissels, Executive co-president of the Vaad of Ukraine, Executive Vice-president of the Congress of National Communities of Ukraine, Dr. Rocco Buttiglione, Professor,  Deputy of the Parliament of Italy, former minister of culture in Italy, Dr. George Weigel, Honorable Senior Fellow of the Ethics and Public Policy Center and others.

During the ESW, we will explore the vision of church-state interaction, will hear stories and witnesses of the resilience of communities that have survived the occupation and constant shelling, and we will learn about how religious communities are surviving in the temporarily occupied territories, we will discuss the resilience of communities in times of uncertainty and different experiences within the country, the support and the integration of veterans, the development of Ukrainian communities in the diaspora during forced migration, learn how faith helps to resist and unite people, conduct a training on mental health and resilience, etc.
Most of the events will be accompanied by simultaneous translation, and the working languages of the forum are Ukrainian and English.
